Poetic Threads Poster Sequence

My posters were made for poets Kari Gunter-Seymour, Russell Atkins, and Yalie Saweda Kamara. The goal was to embody each poet while making the individual poster say something specific about the nature of said poet. My sequence is title Poetic Threads because my concept highlights how each poet brings something unique and personal to the poetry landscape. Each of them has their defining trait that weaves their poetic threads.

Final Mockup

Using free play I created an extensive collection of possible compositions and/or concepts for my final posters. I used multiple free play ideas ideas to create my digital ideations and final concept.

Kari Gunter-Seymour illuminates the rich Appalachian heritage through her work, addressing the stereotypes and misconceptions often held by outsiders about her culture.

Raised in a traditional environment, Russell Atkins has dramatically transformed his artistic path to become a pioneer of the Black avant-garde poetry movement.

Yalie Saweda Kamara presents a contrasting multicultural narrative, having grown up in Sierra Leone before relocating to the West Coast. Kamara’s background is shaped by the contrasting influences of a Muslim father and a Christian mother.
